Software Development

We develop bioinformatics tools to help process genetic data. From software packages to databases, our tools help researchers gain insight from their data.

Visualization

Whether it's plotting large amounts of genetic information or overlaying geospatial data on a map, we create intuitive visualizations to help in the understanding of complex data.

Phylogenetics

Analyzing the evolutionary relationships of organisms allows us to understand its lineage. We study pathogens, echinoderms, and even the migration of humans.

Phylogenetic Visualization

Geospatial Phylogenetic Software

We have created tools to generate and share knowledge about evolution and biogeography. We often use these tools to understand the spread of infectious diseases over time, space, and various hosts. However other groups have used the tools to study the movement of many organisms.

Infectious Disease Surveillance

Public Health Pathogen Tracking

From Avian Influenza to Zika, our lab has worked on understanding the spread of many infectious diseases. Our current efforts are in service of the Biosurveillance Ecosystem for DTRA.

Echinoderm Genomics

We are working on whole genomes for Holthuroids and Ophiuoids as part of an NIH-funded effort in regeneration biology. A product of our NSF work is EchinoDB. EchinoDB is a database consisting of amino acid sequence othoclusters from over 40 echinoderm transcriptomes. Taxa are sampled to span the deepest divergences within each of the five extant echinoderm classes. Data can be searched by BLASTX or BLASTP or annotation database identifiers from the Strongylocentrotus purpuratus reference protein set at NCBI.
